November meeting

Our speaker this month’s was club member Roger .
Roger demonstrated how to make a fondant icing using boiled sugar  Working it on a marble slab till it turns white and then adding a  stock syrup and warming it to a pouring consistency This gave a lovely glossy icing for French fancies ,éclairs and custard slices
All quite delicious .
He also used boiled sugar to make some crystallised fruits which us members all declared to be far superior to the commercially produced products available in the shops .
All agreed that it was a really enjoyable demonstration and are delighted that Roger has agreed to do another dem next year .

February Meeting

dragon-lumixThe February meeting was well attended with members keen to get some tips on how to improve the photographs they take of their cakes.
Jean’s husband Allen ,a professional photographer came along with a very comprehensive selection of camera’s  and gave us a very interesting talk outlining the things we need  to do to get the best pictures .
Jean had made an amazing cake , a dragon on top of a chest, for him to photograph .
If we do another calendar  for next year I’m sure the pictures will be great.
Our thanks to Allen for coming along and talking to us.
Club member Gemma will be our speaker for the march meeting.
After having to reschedule  the speaker we had booked for this meeting , Gemma has stepped in and offered to show us a bouquet of flowers using the new “Russian tubes”.
russian tubesCompletely  unknown to me and I suspect to a lot of our members so this is a demo to watch.
March 13th . get it in your diary and join us for the evening.
As mentioned before we’ve  had to reschedule  our visit from Ribana Cristesque.  Instead of march she will now be coming to our May meeting.
Ribanna runs a sugarcraft academy in Hatfield and demonstrates throughout the country. She will be demonstrating  pulled sugar techeques.
In the 22 years that our club has been running we have only had 1 demo on this subject   and that was right at the start  of the club.So it’s very exciting to find a speaker to come to us.
Should be a very good evening.
MAY 8th. Another date  for your diary.
For our August meeting  I’ve booked Chris Kerrigan to visit us. Chris last visited us in 2012  and was a great success.
Her speciality is rice paper work. She has devised ways of making more flowers using rice paper and will show us these and also techniques for painting on rice paper. This dem will be a must see.
August 14th. Another date for your diary
